In 1999, Stacey Sotosky, Alex Oliszewski, and LeAnn Brubaker began creating theatre together at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. In May of 2005, 3 years after graduation, they formed Penumbra Theatre Company and introduced their first show.
The Sand Queen’s Ceremony is a participatory ritual that Penumbra creates and performs annually. The Sand Queen hails from the Land of Color and in her world dreams are sacred and worshiped through ritual. Each year the Sand Queen comes from the Land of Color to our world and offers a cycling ritual that focuses on a specific dream candle. There are seven archetypal dream candles that create a frame work to explore, understand, and harness the power of dreams.
For the ceremony of 2006 I co-directed the production, performed as the Sand Queen, choreographed, and designed the costumes.
